Didn't they have a female goalie debut in the late 80s, only to get completely destroyed? I remember hearing how she allowed something like 11 goals on 13 shots, mind you this was back when the game was way more physical.
A bit off on both counts- in 1992 Manon Rhéaume played one period in a preseason game against the St. Louis Blues, allowing two goals on nine shots, and played in another preseason game against the Boston Bruins in 1993- can't find the stats for that one.
She's a bit of a celebrity in Québec because she played in the LHJMQ ( Québec's league one step under the pro scene, from which the NHL recruits ) and then some out-of-season NHL games as a publicity stunt.
So let's speak the unspeakable words Femnists rage against : she was amazing... for a woman.
But still couldn't compete in the NHL against top male athletes.
And that was as a goalee. She would have been injured if she played at other positions in a real NHL game.

She also never really stood out on the women's international scene.
Canada has replaced her on the national team with younger female goalies by the time anyone started caring about Olympic hockey.
For the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning, if I recall.
Almost certainly a publicity stunt.
But two goals on nine shots? Pathetic.
