Can someone define what an Incel is? Or what they used to define Incel in this study?
A lot of my single friends and myself included refer to ourselves as Incels but all of us can have sex if we wanted to and some do. All we have to do is lower our standards, which from time-to-time we do. Or we just pay for it.
Is Incel just a new disparaging term for single men? Are Incels anything more than single men? Single men who refuse to lower their standards? I have more respect for them than myself. When I sleep with a woman I have to lower my standards for, I feel dirty. It's humiliating to myself and just makes my depression worse. Every time I cave and do it, I swear to myself I won't do it again because of how terrible the sex makes me feel when I have to lower my standards; however, I could never have sex with a woman who met my standards without paying for it so does that make me an Incel then?
I'm not reading any bullshit study on "incels" but I would hope they define their terms somewhere. It sounds like they mean "Young men who are sexually frustrated enough that it psychologically manifests in other aspects of their life."
It's a terrible idea to use colloquial terms like this in so-called research because even if you (re)define it, the term is a mental shortcut loaded with connotative meanings that will differ across the audience. Even if they didn't mean it as an insult (they did) just using a label like "incel" gives the impression that it's a peculiar state-of-nature unique to these men who are separate "others" existing in isolation from society - rather than creations of society.
I believe the research itself is meant to demoralize men more. The parties researching this stuff aren't actually sympathetic and don't mean to help the men. They mean to try and find manipulative ways to change the men to accept society the way society is rather than admit the problems with society.
When feminists said society was treating women poorly, we said okay you're right, we'll change society for you. When men say society is treating them poorly, everyone says fuck you too bad Incel.
Incel is a very elastic term that changes to fit the agenda of whoever is using the label. I personally only take the label seriously when someone uses it to self identify. The feminists use it to slur anyone who doesn't buy into their bullshit. I've seen them use it to slur guys who complain about the state of the dating market even if they're perfectly capable of getting laid. They really like calling red pillers and MGTOW guys incels to slur them, even though those guys have gotten laid in the past and are often presently getting laid. They're desperately trying to shut down talk of how the game rigged against the average guy.

"Incel" is just the new "Loser Virgin". It's used by women to mark and denigrate men they deem undesirables. Typically it's one of the first things women use when they realize they are losing arguments, along with mocking dick size.
The whole point of it is to make you feel like less of a man because you aren't fucking like an animal all day long. All it does is reinforce the belief that a man only has any value if he has sex and if he can provide for a woman, by making her orgasm/giving her money/etc.
If you can have sex but you CHOOSE not to because of how much of a minefield it is, you're MGTOW.
If you WANT to have sex but you know you can't because you're an ugly troglodyte and you don't want to go outside or improve yourself because of it, you're an incel.
It's such a fine-line though. I can have sex but choose not to because I can't have sex with attractive enough women. The reason I can't have sex with attractive enough women is because I'm an ugly troglodye and I don't want to go outside or improve myself because I tried that before and it's too much of a minefield, not to mention I'm only an ugly trodlodyte relative to the standards women have set which is what the minefield is.
In reality, I'm probably a 6-7/10 as a man and all I want is what a 6-7/10 woman from the 1990s would have been. Unfortunately, today, 6-7/10 women are what 3-4/10 women were 30 years ago.
