I do remember enjoying Episode 1 the most, in part thanks to all the hype of Star Wars returning after a long hiatus. Then 2 and 3 were huge letdowns. But after the sequels, I realized that quality is relative and the prequels were merely tarnished gems. Given a nice polishing and viewed under proper lighting, they're beautiful. No matter how much you polish 8 and 9 they are still turds.
Literally the only bad thing about the prequels is some of the dialogue.
I've never heard anyone say the battle sequences were bad, or that the acting itself was bad, or that the plot was bad. Just the dialogue, and that seems to be enough to relegate them to the trash.
People can say what they want, but the Coruscant battle in Ep III and the Geonosis battle in Ep II was peak Star Wars.
Even some of the dialogue that is bad at least can be somewhat justified in the context. Like all of the complaints about how Anakin trying to talk to Padme comes off as cringey, to which my response is "No shit." My boy was raised in a cult that told him that emotional attachment was evil. How did you expect him to talk to people?

Midi-chlorians, Jar-Jar Binks, the Jedi just accepting an entire army they had never heard of because some randos said they ordered it...
Lucas collaborated with a lot of people on the original trilogy. For example, he showed a rough cut of Star Wars to Spielburg and his friends which resulted in significant cuts and re-ordering of scenes. Empire Strikes Back, widely regarded as the best of the series, was neither written nor directed by Lucas
Lucas let his reputation get to his head on the prequels and both wrote and directed them himself. They showcase his weakness as both a writer and director. There's nothing wrong the story concept of a forbidden love affair corrupting a hero, but the execution is a mess.
At the end of the day, younger people are more generous towards the prequels because that was the Star Wars of their youth and they've never known Star Wars without those films existing. For those that are older, they're definitely a case of the whole being less than the sum of its parts.
Almost guaranteed. After the Star Wars prequels and the Crystal Skull, I'm not falling for any more sequels to beloved movies.
Imagine thinking the prequels are bad after seeing any of the sequels.
Imagine thinking the Prequels are bad, period. Even with subpar entries like Phantom Menace, they are still great movies and I love them.
I thought the Prequels were bad, fight me.

Imagine being so young that you didn't grow up with the original trilogy and don't know any better.
The prequels are green screen CGI trash and the sequels are even worse.
Implying I havent seen every single Star Wars and love them all. Except the Sequels, because fuck the Sequels.
I suppose this would also be a bad time to mention that my favorite Star Wars is Revenge of the Sith?
