The meetings after that are fucking stunning. All of the media in that room proceeded to directly argue with Carl, to his face. All of them were pissed off, and almost all of them tried to talk him down from his stance and say "oh, well I'm not like that", or "oh, well, you need us", or "you don't understand". He had the same attitude on the stage that he had in the hall with each and every single journalist in there.
That's why they went so crazy after him during that run (which was effectively irrelevant). He really pissed them off, deeply, personally, insulted them.
"You dirty, dirty smear merchant's. Get bent." Love it.
