Edit:
if Musk has any integrity, it will be permanent:

Love to replies crying about "so much for free speech" from people who had no problem letting "the private company do what it wants" when it was publicly traded.
Besides, what do these people like to say? Something about consequences?
Edit: some screenshots show that the account is only banned temporarily:

999 years temp ban, it's an internet classic.
I am loathe to defend Kathy Griffin, but you would think that 'Elon Musk @kathygriffin' is rather clearly parody.
That said, people are fucking morons and some people will fall for anything, as we've seen with CountDankula's numerous impersonations.
I don't care. If you're verified, and you change your most visible identifier to that of someone else, you deserve the ban. If you want to make a parody account, don't launder a verified account to do it.
I think this is rather obvious parody and a rule banning it is in line with autists demanding someone add "/s" to sarcasm, BUT a simple solution is if you are verified with name X and change that name, you immediately lose verification and the blue checkmark until you verify the new name or change back to the correct one.
I'm honestly surprised verification doesn't lock your name. If this is your official, public-facing account that represents you as a person, why would you be changing your name?
I agree, and Dank immediately got a temp ban for doing it with a blue check (he had never gotten a temp ban for doing it previously).
A permaban, however, is rather a large step up, and Elon's 'clearly parody' statement doesn't really cover the '@kathygriffin' part of the equation.
Justice Dankula was the funniest thing on Twitter since its inception.
Many RW accounts - that were clearly labeled parodies - were banned long before Elon ever even made a bid for Twitter. And none of them were abusing the verification symbol.
Edit: here's the tweet that probably did her in:

Yeah, can't really find the "parody" in calling yourself someone famous and demanding political activism. Than again, if that isn't the current state of entertainment nowadays.
See that, Kathy?! That was a fucking joke! You dumb fucking cunt!
Don't care. Blue checks now have to deal with 1% of the rules anon accounts have had. Hopefully that percentage keeps increasing
