That could be a false correlation. Since the first MMR vaccine is administered around the age where it is appropriate to wean a child, it also lines up with when any existing congenital immunodeficiency is no longer being masked by antibodies received from the mother.
It could be, which is why I am saying anecdotal. Every one I know had doctors say it was an adverse reaction to the shot. That doesn't mean they were right, or that I have a proper sample size.

Anecdotally the majority of cases I know about were from a bad reaction to the MMR.

Same reason there are more people with asthma and severe allergies, we can treat it. Shit that used to kill you is now an inconvenience.
