Yet another reason to avoid cities.
Crushes are nature's way of telling you the population density is way too fucking high. 149 people died the ignoble death of a factory farm animal, all because more people within city limits equals more tax money.
Seoul will no doubt respond to this tragedy by building another thousand skyscrapers consisting of 150 square foot "luxury" apartments.
Narrow streets, crowds, people not noticing the increasing crush until it was too late, plus rumours that word spread about some celebrity showing up at some backalley bar that started the crush in the first place, maybe.
Too many people, thinking there was nothing wrong with being that many people that close around them.
First I've heard. What's even going on over there?
There is a "trendy" neighborhood in Seoul for nightlife, clubs, partying
One alleyway in particular is famous
This is the 1st halloween without COVID restrictions.
100,000 people slammed into that neighborhood
The force of tens of thousands of people pushing towards the small narrow alleyways from multiple directions resulted in a crush of bodies in a narrow, confined area. the pressure exerted by people pushing to get in exceeded the ability of the people already there to breathe. high heat, being stepped on if you fall down, and not being able to breathe from the crush of bodies, all contributed.
Once it starts, the people making it happen are at the edges of the crowd maybe a mile away, and have no idea.
If you're in a crowd and you start pushing the people in front of you, you should receive a free street execution. That's herd animal behavior. Except no, herd animals know better than to be that particular flavor of retarded. Literal sheep are more intelligent than crowd pushers.
Halloween Stampede. Not entirely sure why or how
These things happen because some percentage of any crowd is going to be short-sighted assholes. People shove in crowds without considering that the person they're shoving has to go somewhere, forcing them into the person ahead of them, and so on until the pressure wave either reaches empty space and dissipates, or reaches an obstacle and puts someone between a rock and a hard place.
Phalanxing intensifies!
If school shootings where 3-10 die are enough reason to pass gun control, then surely a human stampede where 150 die is a good reason to pass mandatory social distancing. People must stay 6 feet apart at all times in Korea, punishable by a fine of $2000 or six months jail.
Will this make most public transit impossible? Dont care. Will this bankrupt businesses? Dont care. Will this kill the concert and club scene? Dont care. Its 2022 and saving even one life is more valuable than basic human rights.
If it saves even one life, its worth it. This is just the price of living in a crowded modern city. Some little sacrifices (like the freedom to stand where you want) are necessary to bring our society to ever greater heights. Get to it Korea, you wouldnt want to be evil child-murdering fascists now. What, do you value your freedumbs more than human life?
It doesn't work like that. School shootings are propaganda inflection points for left wing gun control, but liberals don't care about school shootings. They want a disarmed populace so the populace can't rebel against socialist policies that are unpopular. Left wingers always lust for a State monopoly on violence.
Jokes aside, it's certainly a reason to do something.
The 1989 Hillsborough Disaster springs to mind, which prompted redesigns of stadiums and the removal of fences.
