Rubin is Jewish. A conservative political commentator throughout most of her career, she became a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and in September 2020, she announced that she no longer identified as a conservative. In 2021, she became a staunch advocate of the Biden administration.
Steve Hulett spoke to Media Matters: "She supported Kerry in 2004 and worked closely with Katzenberg, who is a big time Democratic donor. I didn't know what to think when she moved east and started blogging like mad as a conservative. I don't know if it's a marketing pose, or if she really believes it, or what."
No person who switched side to the Democrats was ever a real conservative. Trump, while offensive to many on twitter, nonetheless governed as more or less a mainstream Republican.
All these people who switches sides over Trump fall into two groups:
Grifters who saw the Right was on the upswing after 9/11 and decided to jump onto the bandwagon to gain easy fame since the Left was already saturated while the Right was basically open for the taking. Rubin is an example of a grifter. Other examples of grifters include Candace Owens. These are people who have 0 ideological loyalty to the Right, so they can switch sides at any time once the wind blow a different direction.
Statist idiots like Allahpundit who embraced the Right out of fear of terrorism and such after 9/11, seeing how ridiculous the libs were, but then flipped it all around and became Leftists because they became more afraid of Trump specifically, and COVID generally. These people would be Authcenters on the political compass: fearful cowards who believe that Daddy Government is the vehicle for all solutions. These people were always natural liberals who temporarily switches sides thanks to fear of terrorism and having the veil TEMPORARILY lifted on how batshit libs are. These same people still know libs are batshit, but don't care since they're MORE afraid of Trumpers.
You wrote those two while paragraphs while ignoring the simplest, most obvious reason why: Rubin wants more war in the middle east and Trump doesn't. Remember the only time CNN said Trump was acting presidential was when he bombed that Iranian airport?
Neocons were generally jews whose goal was to manipulate the United States into launching wars in the middle east for the benefit of Israel, and their useful idiot converts like Cheney and Bush.
Neocons have been discredited on the Right, so they switches sides. AFAIK, all of them switched sides.
Or they were simply mainstream Republicans. Traditionally the GOP was never a "conservative" party any more or less than the Democrats, it only captured more and more of the populist conservative base as the Democrats swung further to socialism and identitarianism. Traditionally (at least from a global perspective) both American parties were always kind of faux-centrist/liberal joints.
(though it is true that the Dems let themselves get infiltrated by international communism way back before most anyone here was born)

What about us who never switched positions, but supported Trump while still a liberal in the classic sense of the word?
