As I've mentioned before my guilty pleasure with video games is The Sims. I recently had an article in my feed celebrating the fact that a recent survey showed that The Sims audience was 60% female. That doesn't surprise me, because I think a game like the Sims is a type of genre that would appeal to more women, but good grief am I sick and tired of the double standard!
The same old story. If women enjoy a game it is cause for celebration, but if men enjoy a game then they are evil and are keeping women out. Part of the reason I stopped getting gaming magazines (been reading them since the days of Nintendo Power) was because I got sick and tired of every other issue having some article about some poor woman who was told mean words when she was playing online or the millionth article about a female developer because we have to be constantly reminded there are women who are in the gaming business.
I will forever rue the day that the gaming industry took seriously the garbage that Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkisian spew out. I guess it was somewhat satisfying when Anita got upset about a race swapped Buffy reboot, because when it is something she likes it isn't ok to crap all over it.
Although there's agenda being pushed, denigrating men, make them feel hopeless yadayada, I can't help but feel a lot of 8t is jealousy.
In the games that are mostly a male player base, a majority of them are competitive and women are kerbstomped repeatedly by guys in them. Same with a lot of things that they try to push themselves into.
And now they are getting kerbstomped by trans since they opened the door, think you're the baddest bitch in a female prison, well 'Janice' can actually rape and make you pregnant.
Gonna say it... most gamers arent gamers. And most girls dont belong in gaming because they bring their shitty problems into the game. It screws with team dynamics too. A girl on the team is gonna cause drama, distraction, simping, and trolling.
Guys can be as toxic to each other for decades.. but now we got faggoty ass soyboys and bipolar mental girls in video games that we gotta walk on eggshells for.
In the last 10 years of gaming, ive only respected 3 girl gamers. Mostly because they are pretty good and aint trying to flirt or cause trouble. They arent feminazis and they arent twitch thots.
True I am tougher. But can’t help but roll my eyes at the endless push for women in game genres that generally don’t appeal to women.
Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian were nothing more than useful pawns and figureheads of the gaming industry to shame male demographics into accepting worse games, in order for these games to better appeal to women, therewith expanding the consumer base and profit potential of games in general.
Everyone knows men and women have different tastes in entertainment. By toning down the pandering to male tastes and ramping up the pandering to female tastes, they wanted to create a unisex product.
And unisex products are generic garbage per definition.
I see the sims as more of a virtual dollhouse than a game, personally, but that's more a technical definition thing than a put down. it can be fun, and that's what matters. If people give you shit for that, then in the immortal words of Richard Pryor, "Fuck em."
As for the AAA market chasing a phantom audience, I wouldn't lose hope. The more they cater to non-gamers and ignore their loyal fanbases, the more independent developers will rise to fill that hole in the market.
I wont lie to you, a lot of the indie scene is garbage, but you get some gems now and again. Look at scott cawthon for crying out loud. Maybe FNAF isn't your thing, but you can't deny the game made an impact. Hell, look at the Slender series or the stuff put out by Chillas Art.
...and smaller studios are making ambitious games as well. Ark, Satisfactory, Oxygen Not Included, etc. didn't come from the biggest names in the Biz, but they're still fun games as well.
edit: forgot to add the following
The beauty of Capitalism, warts aside, is as long as there's a demand, someone can and usually will supply the product.
Thanks! I’ll check out some Indie stuff
No problem. Like I said, there's a lot of garbage, but you can find good stuff, lol.
In the 90's you could hook up sim city to a flying or driving game. Sim city with the Sims has been pretty common now.
Imagine a gta style brawler where you go into your own city to stop or be crime. The suburbs have the houses built from the Sims. You can shoot those characters.
I would love it.
Oh man, I loved making a map in Sim City and then driving around it in Streets of Sim City.
The helicopter one was annoying because you could only land in helipads.
I’ve actually thought something similar. I’d love to run a police force in a sims style town
I think a lot of people would. A giant open world sims would be amazing.
Agreed completely
