One of them still has a white character, surprisingly

Everything 2D is absolutely "fake 2D" now.
Everyone thinks they can imitate the look of 2D animation by just slapping a cel shade filter over their ugly CG models (and in Japan's case, deliberately sabotaging the frame rate) and calling it a day.
I recently saw a great 2d animation compilation, made me miss old school animation. Sure, stuff wasn't always hyper dynamic but I don't need that always. I prefer backgrounds and actually good looking characters to dynamic movement and same-y looking chracters in everything.
This is the 4th report labeled a violation of Rule 12 over 2D graphics.
Shut up, reporter. That's literally not how anything works. These are opinions I literally could not care any less about.
Land of the Lustrous... Aaaaand... That's it. And that's a show that's watchable ONLY because it's the only show that does 3D-CG-as-2D somewhat decently as a case study, it doesn't really have any other merits.
It CAN be done... But... That anime is years old now, and they've not reached that level of approaching-decent CG animation since, so clearly it is too costly or difficult to do. And they did every cheat in the book: The villains are non-Euclidean, the protagonists are animate stone golems, the scenery has minimal details, they did everything they could cheat at to make it work, and it... approaches decent.
I never thought I'd miss the days of studios using Adobe Flash to make their animations, but I'd give anything to see that being the norm again over this hideous, robotic faux 2d shit we have now. But that would involve paying animators to, you know, animate. And we can't have that.
