To be a Democrat, you are brainwashed into thinking that Republicans are fundamentally selfish, evil people, while Democrats are fundamentally altruistic, good people. You are taught that the only way for society to be better, is for everyone to just stop being selfish, and make everyone altruistic and good. Now that we have established that you want to be a "good" person, next we need to educate you on how "experts" work. For you see, life is too hard to figure out, you could never do it on your own. So instead, what we need is to have "experts" who wake up at 4am and train hard every day like Fauci until they are the absolute masters of their craft. So what YOU need to do is just blindly listen to and trust these people, because they are the experts, they must know what they are doing, and as long as they are ALSO democrats, you can trust that they are good, altruistic people who want what is best for everyone, not just themselves (unlike those evil Rethuglicans).
So based on the foregoing, in the mind of a Democrat, being a good person means blind obedience to Democrat authority. The more blind and more obedient, and the more forcefully you repeat the talking points you are given by certified Democrat approves sources, the more virtuous and good of a person you are.

I think its more that they view the actions of the democrats as forcing everyone else to not be selfish...by stealing peoples stuff and redistributing it. They do this while simultaneously not redistributing what they own themselves, and I feel like the average democrat strongly looks up to that facet. They want to force everyone else to give up their stiff while they keep their own stuff (and even take a bit on the side as payment from the masses for doing the so called societal good of redistribution)
