Well it does seem to be somewhat explained in the piece: A rise in people holding multiple jobs which is masking stagnant or even declining labor participation rate. This is pretty catastrophic, as it implies a rising welfare-state-dependent class and a middle class that is desperate to make ends meet.
Was looking through the comments and found this nice one. One of you?:
Destroy the most productive and highest IQ members in society for 60 years and degrade their spawn and promote and proactively add the least productive and lowest IQ in Society and education them with abject lies and is any one surprised? Lies like CRT, Climate Change, Diversity is our strength, Math is racist, English is racist, Liberty is slavery, government can help, money is free, war is peace, Socialist Europe is the model, the constitution is out of date because old white men came up with it (exactly what African, South American, Asia model do you want to use), Slaves made America, Families don't need a father, killing the unborn is progress, there is no God but Government, UN is our friend, WHO is our friend, WEF is not the reconstitution of Hitler's plan, they hates us for our freedom, big pharma is controlled by government and is safe, government would never create a virus and a related vax that has destroyed the health of the world, communism is good and so on.
The fact that labor participation is lower than ever is catastrophic. The economy can't keep functioning if huge swathes of it's population can't work.
Did all of the good men die in the First World War?
Where have all of the good men gone?
I think the good men left are leaving the United States, retreating to the countryside, or dropping out of society altogether. "Toxic masculinity" has been a term used to force men out of the workforce and out of society altogether. This is what a century of feminism and the 19th Amendment has wrought.
One thing I've imagined is the possibility that the average employee has become less productive, meaning businesses need more people. Boomers are retiring or dying, and the generations after them have been fed more and more irrelevant BS in their education that makes for less skilled adults. Plus, the whole coddling for every sensitivity and decreased work ethic stuff.

Not me, but he's not too far off.
I ask a couple of questions every day:

I had a coworker unironically tell me that you have to let your gen z workers sit on their phone or they'll just quit and that's a good thing.
This guy blames boomers for literally everything and doesn't think anyone should actually have to improve
I see dead people. They’re not voluntarily leaving work. They’re dead from the shots.
