Dude's money is where his mouth is. It's not crowdfunding, it's pre-ordering. Also what do you actually even want? If they wrote for DC or Marvel you'd hold that against them. Since he didn't you hold that against him. The indie comic scene is dominated by people outsignalling each other to get picked up by the big 2. He's self-publishing. You're buying or not. Artists, colorist, printers, etc are already paid.
Not when he is asking for money before having a product.
It is crowdfunding. It looks and functions exactly like a kickstarter except he is running it through his personal web site. Also there is no such thing as "pre-ordering" a comic book. This isn't a video game which has a huge development cost and DLC. Also, ALL pre-ordering is stupid and wrong, which has been proven in the video game context many times.
I don't want my little conservative communities barraged by "rippaverse" shills constantly because some youtuber wants to sell his comic book. I don't want to get barraged by advertisements, and the fact that the product hasn't even been released yet makes it worse. I also am offended by the fact that he is EXPLOITING right wing victim mentality with his bullshit "they tryina censor us!!!" fuck him for that.
But they literally are? He's persona non grata on the largest comic books subreddit and they ban anyone bringing it up. (ok I know, it's reddit but still)
I've been a fan of his for years (not sure why you're criticizing his youtube channel of all things - he earns enough to make a living from that) and I know there are others here who feel the same, so it's absolutely not your conservative community getting barged by rippaverse shills. We were already with him. Not only through his channel but on The Blaze, Geeks and Gamers, and with his metalcore band. He's been a strong anti-Left culture warrior even if he isn't right-wing himself.
To answer your other comment:
I can't confirm or deny how much of an effect that had in conservative circles right now, but that doesn't apply to those of us who were already supporting him, or who are just hoping for an alternative to take over the market. I admit there is some satisfaction in completely demolishing the gaslighting of the SJWs who claim we just don't want black characters. (he said the same) I'm happy to at least get issue #1 because his success pisses off the radical left in this space. If it's good I'll keep buying, if it's not I won't.
Overall I'm just not sure why you're shitting on the success of a good man who loves comics book and is an ally against the woke mind virus. Yes it's important to remind people: Buyer beware, caveat emptor and all due diligence should be taken before making any purchase. Everything else you said sounds like sour grapes or ignorance. If it's ignorance, all I can say is it's hard for someone to hide their true self when doing long form radio or podcasting for years. There are tells when someone is grifting. You may not know this man, but we do. I believe that's why his network of followers, friends, and colleagues on YouTube were able to push this campaign to $2.5m with absolutely zero marketing. Not because they see him as a tool to score political points.
No they are not. Stop lying.
Good for you. I'm not. I don't need you advertising his products to me.
You're just as brain damaged as Marvel. You don't know what you're talking about but want to jump in with faux righteous indignation without an understanding of the topic at hand. The Rippaverse isn't some new thing popping out of nowhere, it's been known he's been doing this for months and in the comics space people have been talking about it. It's popping off now because they're about to begin releasing content. The comic is done, it's not crowdfunding. The issue may be that you don't understand the terms you're complaining about. And holy SHIT you prove you don't know what you're talking about when you say there's no pre-ordering a comic book. What the holy hell do you think it is when you go to a store and ask them to order specific titles and hold them for you? Lurk more and learn about how comics work, because you clearly don't understand the industry but want to dictate how it should operate. Your core point is "Stop talking about things I don't like without reading them". That's a terrible point.
Just because he managed to get a lot of money from consoomers doesn't mean the comics would be any good, that remains to be seen. I've bought (or "acquired") several comicbooks that came out of the anti-woke crowd. To be frank, most of them were pretty shit.
Would I rather read current year Marvel or DC? No, but that's a false dichotomy: there's decades of comics, manga, books or magazines that I could be reading instead. The only disadvantage is that I don't get to support some tradbait based black man. Oh wait, that's not a disadvantage.
Wont know its bad or good until its released. I see zero harm in supporting someone actually making the effort to create something outside the corporate wokespehre. Its not like people are dropping millions of dollars on the thing.
If you want to support something simply for marketing itself as anti-woke, by all means do so. I'm not saying it's gonna be bad, I'm just saying a lot of the things I've read that came out with this sort of branding tend to be mediocre, so I'm a little wary.
If it's good I'll be happy to support it myself.
Did you buy Cyberfrog?
No shit motherfucker. Don't pre order and if it's not good then people will stop supporting. Nobody has a gun to your head
If people are allowed to shill for stuff that hasn't released yet, then I'm going to point out that (in my experience) these things have a bad track record in terms of quality.
