The ideologically inclined boss that I've spoken about previously seems to be learning this slow and painful lesson.
Every time they try to make a hiring decision leaning towards diversity, rather than it just being an added bonus, they find out that the applicant basically lied on their resume (because their demonstrable work experience is far lower than stated), and they need significantly more effort at training. Like, a full month more training than the average person, and 2-3 months more than the person we hire that is already qualified for a slightly higher position.
The other part of this, which she doesn't recognize in herself, is the crippling insecurity that these applicants have.
The reason these people are not at the highest points within industry isn't because they've "never been given a chance", it's because they actually suck and correcting them takes significant time and investment. They literally aren't up to the job, and making them up to the job is particularly difficult.
