Also:
"Metal Gear isn't political because it has anti-imperialistic themes, but because it features a woman in a bikini. FNAF isn't political because it deals with the aftermat of a serial killer, but because its creator donated money to some republican candidates"
Even better:
"The Legend Of Zelda isn't political because its plot revolves around monarchy and has anti-fatalistic themes, but because Link is a white male"
tl;dr
Companies should stop saying their games are apolitical, because it would make finding wrongthinkers easier for us
I got something along the lines that companies should be up front about their politics and not hide it. I'm all for it. Of course the author does not understand why politics in games are shit now but hey I'm all for advertising if a game is going to be shit.
The games are going to be made political regardless of anything you say or do. Your only recourse is to support the politics you want to see in your games. If not sucking leftist dick is a political statement, then I guess those are my preferred politics. I will spend my time and money on media that support those “politics”.
Yes and no. Every piece of media having a political dimension isn't the same as saying every piece of media is a political mouthpiece.
The article illustrates that the "everything is political" is a power grab. Is a thinly veiled attack on Call of Duty
My language was unintentionally ambiguous. I meant to say that if leftists are determined to make media a political battlefield, then you can’t stop them. It is futile to even try.
It’s similar to identity politics. You can bitch and moan all you like about the fact that some racial/ethnic groups are operating as a political/cultural bloc in order to outcompete and subvert your own tribe, but complaining about it won’t stop it. Your only actual recourse is to defend yourself with similar levels of racial/ethnic solidarity.
When a leftist says that video games have always been political, the correct response is “okay, then I want the old politics back because your politics are degenerate and stupid”.
That's a good way to put it really. Fictional stories have been political since politics have existed. It's just part of it. I've said this before but I don't really have to make myself boycott entertainment media, because they do it to themselves. Because I buy what I like. Stories forced full of diversity hires, the "strong and independent woman," trannies, lesbians, etc. don't interest me so I don't buy them.
That’s when I lost interest in modern entertainment. Got sick of endless praise of diversity for the sake of diversity
Mostly it comes down to bad writing. Modern writers A. Do not understand people, having been deliberately miseducated their whole lives to ignore their lying eyes and ears, and B. View debate as a form of violence.
Consider Star Trek, which is basically commie propaganda, yet always managed a Socratic dialogue, with both sides represented to some degree, before leading you to the 'correct' point of view. Modern writers view even this brainwashing exercise as offensive, and see their viewpoints as a form of identity. You either agree completely, or are a filthy heretic.
They cynically used identity to defend their leftist ideologies, and now the equivalence is functionally true. Sucks.
So the writer of that article would be fine with right wing politics in games?
