They didn't agree. They only agreed literally at gunpoint (including auto cannons, or "wagon guns").
Control question: do you also believe the feds were "ambushed" at Waco? (They said they were, I say they weren't, perhaps "ant-American".)
They were relucant to give up their rifles for many reasons: masculinity symbols (status symbol for young men especially), they needed them for hunting as they were still just nomadic hunters, most simply their property (and most valuable at that), and instead of even any compensation they just got big guns pointed at them, making them afraid to be disarmed. And for a good reason even as they didn't know world history: https://www.ammoland.com/2022/01/historic-gun-control-wounded-knee-massacre-december-29-1890/
Waco had many similarities, including a wacky apocalyptic cult with (legal) guns, a raid by bumbling idiot feds, a bloodbath after a random gunshot, lots of dead kids, and instigation of all this by sensationist journalism.
Your actual "ambush" scene: https://books.google.pl/books?id=rfUFZSlW-JAC&pg=PA294 (p.294-301)
Oh, and the time for your "ambush" had been then: https://books.google.com/books?id=rfUFZSlW-JAC&pg=PA274
