I saw the same thing watching cable TV when I was visiting family for Christmas. A really visible trope I saw was the white man being incompetent or messing up and the black man or white woman coming in to save the day with w/e was being advertised.

That trope was super common on sitcoms and commercials in the 90s/2000s. I haven't watched TV since then.
