Though Toland points out that the town where the Jew was supposedly from didn't have any Jews in it at the time; they'd been kicked out in the 1400s (or thereabouts, going on memory), and weren't allowed to return for 20 years or so after the relevant time window would have closed. So that might have just been some kind of rumour.
