I remember in the days before 2020 thinking that Apple, Facebook, and Google getting into healthcare and education was curious. I didn't realize it was the precursor to totalitarianism.
I will never trust the vast majority of companies ever again.
It’s interesting, because Google specifically started as a company that said it would not do this…
Like, obviously they always had the power to do so, which is why it was such good PR for them to pretend they wouldn’t. Same with Apple and its pretense of “respecting privacy” (lol)…
In the end, what it comes down to is that once a company gets big enough, it will always abuse its power. Because, as the old adage goes, Absolute power corrupts Absolutely…
One thing that I would hope we learn out of all this, is that in this sphere, and in “entertainment” (Disney, Viacom and Microsoft, mostly), companies should not be allowed to get this big, especially if it means buying up almost all of their competition, like the three above…
Teddy Roosevelt’s administration realised this, 116 years ago. And that is long before these monopolies could control virtually all transfer of information, and aspects of our lives…
It’s seriously worrying that we seem to have forgotten all that, in the Second Gilded Age… 😑
Most governments want it to be like this. That's what the Great Reset was about, bringing in Stakeholder Capitalism with emergency powers. An economic system where companies and people can only have success if the elite allow it, and obviously they're going to benefit themselves the most.

Also a company doesn't have the same moral, ethical, and reputational concerns that a human being does. They do care about "reputation", but it's a different kind of reputation that can be traded like a commodity. At some point, a company turns into a beast that exists only to feed itself and is not beholden to any C-level employee.
How long until Facebook (or rather “Meta”) branches into phone production (or at least an OS), I wonder..??
That’ll be disturbing. Especially if people actually buy them… Because Facebook is so shit, now, as are most of its “products” and “services”, so I can only imagine how terrible, and honestly oppressive, that would be, lol…
It’s funny, because Google+ didn’t last quite long enough for Facebook to essentially become Google+…
Everyone thought it would go the other way, but lol nope…
Like, my god, the desktop/mobile web version of Facebook is appallingly terrible. I would’ve thought that would’ve been seen as an overplaying of their hand, but apparently not. Not yet, anyway…

They've been buying in on others' products so far. There were phones produced with a hardware go-to-Facebook button, and plenty more where the app came pre-installed and couldn't be removed except by rooting the phone.

Google removed "don't be evil"

"Stakeholder Capitalism" = Fuck you we own everything, you own nothing.
Don't even use their fucking jargon.
I know. That’s my point.
That they initially had that, and then consciously decided to give up pretending, lol…
