Sadly, it's not just academia. This is everywhere now. I used to work at RBC and they literally had meetings with the whole team to discuss equity. They straight up said stuff like equality wasn't good enough, we need to strive for equity. Equality is where we give everyone the same tools to work but equity is where we give everyone the tools they need to succeed and used a bike race where a handicapped person got a special bike designed for their handicap. We had like a 2 hour course we had to do that talked about all the evil things white people did in history and how to make up for it essentially. When I was still employed there only women or POCs got ahead yet the white men were always more competent. It's really really really bad out there but lots of Canadians don't realize it.
