Especially modern art: the postmodernist obsession with subjectivity, with making abstract pieces that the consumer has to identify meaning in, which of course appeals to all of these megalomanial nouveau-riche, as opposed to art that tells a story, which is what ordinary people want.

Now how much of that $3M went to the artists that actually drew it? I saw artists because typically they're inked and colored by different people.
It depends on the deal between the two artists. Back in the 1980’s it was customary for the artist and inker to split the finished pages between them. Being this long ago the original artist might of sold his page for a couple hundred dollars. That’s if he ever received the pages back from the publisher.
