They've pushed themselves into a corner with insane renewables-based energy policies, and left the Russians as their only source of baseload energy for the foreseeable future. They fucked themselves.

The Germans increased their carbon footprint a few years ago because their renewables were faultering and they had to bring coal plants back online to make up the difference.
