Since I am a glutton for punishment I check the Song of Ice and Fire about once or twice a year now (used to be on it a lot more when I still believed GRRM would finish the books) and I came across a post by some angry feminist attacking Song of Ice and Fire books for violence against women and the usual evil white male dominated spaces garbage that we have all heard a million times. I asked her if she had skipped over all the violence and brutality against men in the books and also if she is so bothered by white males, then maybe she shouldn't be reading their books or better yet stop going into "male spaces" if you are just going to whine about everything not being sufficiently feminist for you.
To my surprise she responded and told me about how I was drenched in white supremacy and sexism. I asked her if she wanted to have a discussion or continue with her talking points. Long story short I basically told her that after sci-fi/fantasy my favorite genre to read is murder mystery/crime drama and there are plenty of female authors. Also, the problem people have is people who don't like the genre that invade the spaces only to ruin it.
She never responded after that but I have always wanted to ask these people why they don't just read books written by women. Reminds me of a time when I used to still go on the Sci-Fi channel website and this lady wrote an article about fantasy novels and of course bashed Tolkein, GRRM, and Robert Jordan for being white males while promoting some garbage that had recently won the hugos (or some award, but winning a literature award in these times doesn't mean anything to me).
in my experience if you approach nerds and actually like the IP, then you will be welcomed. I also love when women whine about how they weren't welcome at a comic book store. I remember my friends and I loved it the rare times we met women who were into that stuff. Wheel of Time is the latest example of butchering an IP and I am honestly surprised since it was already very female centric.
Only one is online, a short story, and it's on Amazon. Most of my works were lost in a fire 20 years ago. Been a long fucking time since I finished anything original.
Fannish shit, I'll never tell.
Gotcha. I got a story on Amazon as well.
Maybe one day, my shorty will be joined by something longer again. In the mean time, the war with writer's block and depression continues! Fight on, men!
