If those days ever existed it was over by the late 80s. I still remember articles slobbering all over Kings Quest 4 because the main char was a GURL! And articles tut tutting over tomb raider's 4 poly tiddies and everquests boobelf cover art.
You make a good point. I can remember some feminist whining but most gamers ignored them. Just like in comic books I remember in the 90s the owner of my local shop said that until they whine about half naked men in spandex too he will ignore the stupid feminists. Now they are in charge.
Also it wasn’t often I’d hear stuff like that but now it seems rare for a game review not to have some lecture about current society.
Also I remember playing Kings Quest 4. That came out when I was still in single digits so I wasn’t reading magazines yet but at the time a female protagonist didn’t bother me. Now I probably wouldn’t buy it since they can’t shut up with over praising something that checks boxes.
