basically, when they made the contract with the company without knowing better they signed and gave the copyright of all their creations to the company they worked for.

but the law says that the company can claim the copyright of the creations only if this contract is made with effective employees, if the same contract is made with de facto, not employers but freelancers then the freelancers get to hold the copyright of their creations 20 years later.
