The kid stood against injustice despite the obvious consequences, didn't lose his cool and use unnecessary force, and successfully defended himself against an entire angry mob by himself. He's far more deserving of the hero label than 98% of the other recipients in modern media.

That's because the mainstream media, on an international level, is being directed from some central body.

Honestly, the same talking points and prima facie judgments you see on television in the States are exactly the same, and put forward at the exact same time, as what everyone in Europe, Australia, Canada etc all get. That level of synchronization simply isn't possible organically. They're all coordinating their efforts somehow.
