slightly spoilery trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZc4PVVd-0w
tl;dr It's a good western. If your like the genre or you can handle a slower pace and occasional panoramic shots then definitely watch this one.
Spoiler free summary: Old Henry is about a farmer and his son on working isolated homestead. Their lives are disrupted when Henry finds an injured man next to a bag of cash. Henry decides to save the man. Soon after a shady "lawman" shows up asking about his convalescing guest. Henry if faced with the choice of turning his patient over or denying the request and enduring the consequences that follow.
This movie is well shot, well acted and the script respects the characters and the setting. The buildup is slow but that makes the payoff that much more worth it. The actors are all believable in their roles.
Spoilery category breakdown: Rated on a 0-5 scale with 3+ pushing into unwatchable territory.
Diversity: 0 Almost all the actors are or appear to be white. With the exception of the mexican tracker whose character is very appropriate to the setting.
Feminism: 0 No women in the whole movie.
Faggotry: 0 No homos or any mention of sex.
Subversion: 0 Henry is shown working hard in his farm and has the respect of both his brother in law and his son. The son is rebellious and brash but appropriately so for his age and situation. I didn't notice any anti-american, anti-west, or anti-christian messaging anywhere in the movie.
See, it is possible.
I think Gettysburg and Master and Commander both also lack women. Certainly any women which might be in those movies are extras.
Surprised you don't have a list of such movies, TBH.
I just don't watch movies. It solves the problem for me.
Master and Commander have women incidentally, but none with speaking roles. They are seen when the HMS Surprise is anchored off the coast of brazil seeking evidence of the Acheron.
That is a consequence of feminism in movies, if you put a women in a movie then you have to cater to her. Make sure she is not taking care of children, or cleaning, she must be a strong independent women that apparently does not like to live in a clean house. Then you would have to make her stronger then a men, save him and belittle the main character while showing no emotions.
Is much easier to not have women in the movie.
No Escape
The trailer makes it look like a rural version of the movie Nobody, which is another good movie that came out this year.
Thanks. I generally don’t watch anything made after 2014 but when I get a recommendation I try to support good modern day stuff
I would love to read your review of "No Escape" with Ray Liotta
my first request! no promises but if I find time and motivation I'll check it out
A movie in 2021 showing a man having a good relation with his son, that is a shocker.
I tried watching it last night but gave up quickly. I can't blame the movie though, I simply wasn't in the mood, yet at the same time nothing motivated me to continue watching.
M y attention span is trashed so I usually cant sit through a whole movie unless it is a marvel spazfest. Even for a good one like this one I took two intermissions. But I dont fault the movie, it is my own retardation.
