When your ability to access the internet is tied to a QR code that measures your social credit score, vax status and tracks your purchasing and social media histories, this community will no longer exist.
What keeps that from happening is the elites know the pie is much bigger in western countries that have an illusion of freedom.
There is very little room at the top in China and even less as freedom gets squeezed harder an harder and absolute isolation is increased like in North Korea.
If the west were to give up their illusion of freedom it would be the result of a faction war amongst the elites. Most of them may be power hungry and amoral but, so far, I haven't seen evidence they are ideologically driven. That is what they use to manipulate the masses.
FB is pushing for internet regulations due to what occurs on its website.
pardon my ignorance... but itsnt it far too late for that... the internet is everywhere and outside of the control of any one organisation / government. Its definitely possible they could legislate stricter regulations for a single website like Facebook... but the whole internet?? people will just use Yandex
They are, but like many leftist plots lately they're spending their time wanting to be praised for seizing power they don't deserve instead of focusing on what they would need to do to pull this shit off competently.
They're also widely broadcasting their intent in a way everyone can see. While things may get rough, I don't think whatever they attempt will have staying power long term. Too slow, too obvious, too full of themselves to act quickly to shut down the alternatives that will arise. That doesn't mean we should be complacent.
The Pirate Bay still exists. I have faith that a community like this will exist forever, regardless of what bullshit goes on in politics.

That is actually the point of all this. A digital identity that can be used to monitor and regulate everyone's activity.
Yup, government can't do it themselves so they're using corps to do it. Cyber authoritarianism by proxy is the end goal.

Then we shall form a secret society where we meet in dingy basements and communicate long distance via pigeon.

Isn’t it against the first amendment?
not if people don’t fight for it

.win will be safe for a while do to how small this community is. If it was to ever reach 1/1000 of reddit I expect that they would shut it down.
The entire thing is to give the government control on online information. And like all authoritarians before them it will be "for your protection"
I'm guessing it will become like Canada?
yes
We? We are already here.
