I'm skipping some stuff here, but a town I grew up in used Can't to mean thing. Like get the cunt on the table, or the cunt got loose on the road.
So when I think of the word, I generally think about a cow.
Fast forward a decade and I am at the vagina monologues. They are trying to make cunt a word that has no meaning, so they are screaming it at everyone.
I think about cows, and guessed it had to be a swear word or something. A little while later I'm with a friend and I mention that words are weird.
"Apparently cunt means something terrible to you," I said.
Her eyes grew wide and shocked.
That's how I found out it was the worst word you could say, besides Tax audit, in the US.
I know someone who fled from Iraq. From where he came from, calling somebody a dog was one of the worst things you could call them because dogs were considered sub-human.

I mean it's rarely a compliment, even from people that like dogs. oh, blacks and wiggers. Carry on
In a lot of cultures, looking someone in the eye is very rude. Especially if they are your superior.
It is an insult in English too. As in "that game was a total dog". Same reason why bitch (a female dog) is also considered an insult.
