No, it's wasn't "purely by accident".
Orwell was a socialist but he never was a communist. The communists tried to kill him in Spain.
Animal Farm goes far beyond Stalinism. For example, the inspiration for these pups being taken away to be raised as vicious dogs? It was under Lenin, namely the Chekists of Dzierżyński recruiting orphan boys.
