That's because they changed things from the comic.
Massive spoilers ahead that get more and more significant as I go.
Debbie isn't Asian for starters so Marc isn't half Asian as a result. They changed the characters races because of who they cast for the voices.
Amber isn't black in the comic.
That change is going to bite them in the ass when her domestic violence event happens although her bf at that time will probably still be white.
Rex and Rudy are both white and redheads.
Rudy quite literally looks like an adult Lex Luthor with a full ginger beard and hair in the last main arc of the 144 issue comic but yet again the ginger gets wokewashed.
The level of destruction caused when Nolan and Marc fight is nowhere near as graphic as the cartoon went with. Nolan doesn't fly Marc though train passengers in the comic they both crash through the roof of the underground and then onto a train which is then crushed by the collapsing building above. THAT kills the remaining passengers, not Nolan driving Marc face first though blood bags.
Marc's best friend William isn't revealed to be gay until well after issue 100. Instead the show started at that point possibly to avoid some of the outright cringe they'd get crucified for on Twitter by the left and right given how William and his bf treat Marc after William is out.
Marc gets raped by a Viltrumite woman later on. Will be interesting to see how the cartoon portrays her as she is completely unapologetic about it because she ends up with the rape baby she wants in the first place.
Overall despite the comic nailing the ending issue the whole story is essentially a massive dunk fest on Marc every few arcs. His world gets "destroyed" several times over without the actual planet being destroyed but it comes close a few times.
A true adaptation was never going to happen as the comic was very much a product of it's time so some of the humour would piss off woke crowds now despite being harmless banter between friends.
I didn't watch the show. I read around 100 volumes of the comic, and quit at the rape scene. I kind wish I had stopped earlier.
I was very unimpressed with basically everything - character development, plot, action, "jokes", and the absolutely ridiculous amount of gratuitous sex. The main character and "hero" is nothing more than a Mary Sue and a heel. I can see tons of opportunities for whoever is adapting it for TV to cuck it up even more.
