No, it was specifically a Christian group... less cult-like and more like... enlightened. Because in the end they turned out to be right about everything, and most of the people were willing to join them and stockpile resources for the impending apocalypse.
The player-character was going around blowing up all their reserves and resources and destroying their doomsday bunkers, which was hilarious because in the end a nuclear apocalypse did occur and the player-character needlessly got countless people killed.
