You may have seen this thread about the upcoming Twitch tags rollout. Well, they're out now, and it's a hoot! Pretty much what I expected.
For those that want to, you can search the full list here (Search by just "Stream"), but I'll pick out a few. Also, there wasn't much there from what I saw, but for those curious Twitch livestreamed a Q and A and discussion, which can be found here.
Anyway, first, yes, "Black" is a tag. Secondly, no, "White" is not a tag. Neither is "Jewish."
More tags: Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, Transgender, Asexual, Pansexual, Aromantic, Demisexual, and more. No Straight, of course.
There's also: Gender Variant, Genderfluid, Genderqueer.
Tons of countries/communities, including a "Seychellois" tag for Seychelles, an island chain off East Africa, with a population of under a hundred thousand people. As well as Saint Helenian, for Saint Helena which, while not a country, has a population of around four thousand.
No, there is no "United States," there is no "North American."
Now here's where it gets even more fun...: ADD, ADHD, Amputee, Anxiety (For streams and content featuring the anxiety community), Autism, Bipolar, Blind, Borderline Personality, Chronic Illness, Depression, Spinal Cord Injury, and many, many more.
There is no Male or Female, but there is Masculine and Feminine, as well as Man and Woman. I'm just amazed Masculine and Man made the cut, although I'm sure it will be a shitshow regardless.
And then a few more assorted ones: Androgynous, Body Positive, Drag, Furry, Latinx.
I also saw that there are tags for both Palestinian (and yes, Israeli is also a tag), and Taiwanese. They treat all country-related tags as "communities" and not explicitly countries, but I'd imagine this could still piss off certain groups, which could be funny. Although, there is no "Chinese" tag, but instead a "Chinese Nationality" tag. Some "communities" are listed as explicitly nationality, while most are not.
Anyway, thought I'd share some of the weirdest findings. It's amazing some of the things they included, and some of the things they didn't. What an absolute clown fiesta.
Yes I've always struggled to find anxious furries from nigeria to bully.
Good, more fuel for the tag blocker scripts.
Literally my first thought. "Now I can finally filter these freaks out and never see them again."
Speaking of microstates, is there a Sanmarinese tag?
I demand my Dark Souls streams from the Vatican.
This is what I'd expect from something like PornHub. No Catalan Community tag though, or Catalonian. Getting a bit racist hey Twitch?
Do they allow negative sorts? Like using booleans with a "-" to exclude or the like?
Otherwise, you'd be forced to create an anti-sort, and use EVERY tag EXCEPT the ones you want implemented, that way people can still sort to remove that which they were uninterested in. Negative sorting is more important than positive sorting for useful results, after all: Very rarely are people looking for, in example, a Seychellois hot tub streamer, but they might want to view a hot tub camgirl from just any African nation in general. But if you add tags, it needs ALL those tags, without a negative sort. OR, NOR, NAND, XOR. These are important functions, and I think all these tags could be very useful if you could make some of those tags defaulted to positive, or to negative.
Like, I know it doesn't matter much, but I like my camwhores to speak a language I do, which is many, but excluding the ones I don't as a default, so it only shows 5 language camwhores, would be nice.
...Twitch is that camwhore site with the bikini babes, right?
If twitch don't allow you to filter out a tag you might want gone then I'm sure there will be script or extensions to let the User Agent do it (a.k.a the browser).
"Unwanted Twitch" does this, apparently.
Regarding their exclusion of Jewish, I didn't find a tag for Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or Hindu either. I guess they just aren't including religious tags.
Jews often identify as a race, though. If you're going for max "inclusivity" and self identification, and all that jazz, "Jewish" should absolutely be a tag, if things like "Black" are.
