Ugh. Is he going to die and pass the torch to a much better woman?
Yeah, after being emasculated throughout the film. Emphasis on him being old and obsolete. I don't know why Ford would volunteer for this crap.
He volunteered for The Force Awakens, which did the same thing to Han Solo.
He had long been open about his lack of attachment to the character and believing he was "finished" as a character in New Hope. So at least in that case it was probably a solid paycheck and a final "I'm not gonna be called again for this."
Yeah... but doing it twice is too much.
In a world where they put story first, they would have some scenes where Indy's age is catching up with him. However, they'd also have scenes where Indy's experience and old-fashioned ways do the trick while the new way doesn't work so well.
One scene I'd like would have to be set up earlier. At some point, Indy's protégé is established as an expert martial artist. At some point in their adventure, an enemy martial artist appears and it looks like they're going to have an epic kung fu battle. However, there's a ticking clock, so Indy just shots the guy, throws out a one-liner, and they keep on moving.
The other things they'd need to do is show Indy's changing priorities. A life of globetrotting adventure was great when he was younger (and is good for his young protégé), but now he wants to spend more time with the woman in his life and any children he might have.
