The government lockdowns have been a test bed for multiple leftist ideas. Boosted unemployment is basically UBI. Nonstop money printing is basically redistribution.
Of course, the elites have done nothing but benefit while the middle class has been utterly devastated.
I'm mostly cheering for things to get as bad as possible as quickly as possible so that the snapback occurs before too much damage is done.
My buddy’s wife supervised nurses and CNAs at a nursing home. Once the big unemployment checks kicked in they started losing the workforce because the unemployment office basically stamped everything as COVID related. No appeal. Too dangerous. Once the big stimmy checks hit accounts they hit critical staffing shortages.
The top brass were on her about staffing levels, performance metrics and some employee complaint against another employee that she didn’t address within four hours or some crap. She was doing 80-100 hour weeks. She walked in last week and handed them her badge and keys and walked out. She was over having beers last night and played a few voicemails they’d left begging her to come back. They were hilarious. This lady sang the praises of leftism in 2020 and is now probably more anti-leftist than Rush Limbaugh. It’s amazing.
Most people who already were on government assistance don't care, they live in unsanitary, dilapidated housing where they eat the most basic shit or get fast food all the time for every meal. Their utilities are always months behind and when the power cuts out they holler at the electric company to get things turned back on or they'll pay that months bill and then not pay again for 3 months, they don't pay for rent or the mortgage but the banks aren't going to foreclose on a property worth $300 with a 50k lean on it because it'll just sit there until the city decides to demolish the entire block. The landlords refuse to do any work for the tenants who are so behind on their rent because they're basically squatting at this point. Their income is subsidized with under the counter work or just selling pills that they don't use for illnesses that they may or may not have because medicare and medicaid pay for all of it.
And they just do this for the next thirty years while they wait to see if their monthly checks get another twelve dollars added to it every year.
The only part of the work situation they understand is that they get 300 a week for free and that is usually about 75% of a weeks worth of minimum wage pay would get them.
So they look at the problem and see that if they gave up doing whatever they wanted every day of the week and worked 40 hours a week they could make an extra 20% at BEST every week. They're not going to do that, not when doing nothing keeps them sedentary. It's not like they have marketable skills that could get them a job that would pay them significantly more than minimum wage would. So why would they bother to put in the effort?
The problem is they added several hundred dollars a week to unemployment. Basically unless you’re making over $17/hr (more if you have kids) it was a no-brainer to quit working.
They added a ton to unemployment for a while. I think the extra is done here but may still be going on in other states. I know a guy who tripled his income by getting laid off for the lockdowns last year. I think he's back working now, but there's a lot that are happy with doing nothing.

ACCELERATE!

300 a week after 400, and 600 before that. This was from federal in addition to state benefits.
