Ask any European about the gypsies and watch how fast that statement turns out to be false.
That is not really a racial issue, but rather about behavior.
This. It also doesn't help that there are several types of "gypsy" and they all like to distinguish themselves from one another with different names.
The whole "it's racist to hate gypsies" basically stemmed from the good clean travelling ones who respect their own traditions as much as their guest countries were being tarnished by the stereotypical ones who didn't.... Much like oooh every other demographic out there.
