I was just lurking back then, but I was around. My final interpretation of the event was that you did every single thing you could to negotiate in good faith. I found it overkill...but afterwards, you were left without any real room for fault on that front because you went so far in trying to make it work; no one could say "well, if he'd only done ___ or avoided ___, then maybe a different result could have been achieved." Could be coincidental, but I think it ended up fine.

Yes, we did very hard to avoid responding to their provocations. There was also the matter that there were some moderators who were genuinely interested in reform, but in a pinch, they'd side with their colleagues. So if the anti-reform moderators managed to provoke us into doing something, even if it was their fault, it would not happen. Note that we were actually trying to make things better, not cast blame on a failure on them.

But most people were mad about not being able to post KiA meta posts, which wasn't happening anyway. Anger always comes when you least expect it.

I don't think you needed to go such lengths simply because they were being bitches and you weren't.

Sometimes you have to deal with bitches and humor their nonsense if you want to get something done. In the end, we didn't get anything done, but we didn't lose anything as a result.

There was a decrease in useless comments and an increase in useful comments. I can't explain why that would occur, but I didn't imagine it. I love seeing new and unique ideas, interpretations, and arguments, so I'll naturally support whatever gets me that.

But the sub does not exist so a small club can have useful comments, we're trying to make things better. And we can't do that if we are closed to the world.

Less selfishly, I've questioned you mildly about it in the past because staying public seems like it's just a big hassle for the mods.

It's quite a headache, for me at least because I'm ultimately responsible for what happens. But we all have our cross to bear, and it being a hassle is no excuse for not doing what is best for the community, in our judgment at least. If it were up to me, I'd have resigned long ago, because it lifts a giant load from my shoulders, but that would be a betrayal of the community. Not because the other mods are not good (and indeed, better than I am), but because they don't have as much knowledge of and experience with admin shenanigans.

It's honestly amazing the sub is still up, I wonder if it's due to being a low priority or just from people getting confused about us being kia2 while kia is totally different.

Outsiders do not see such differences of gradiations. To them, we're all just "Nazis". But they have greater opportunities of attack on us because KiA has put so many things off limits. When you don't talk about BLM at all, you're not going to get glowies who go full Coontown.

I'll give you a hint, if you don't follow E-news much. Voat shut down a about 2 months ago, leaving many /pol/ types without a place to talk.

Oh, they got Voat too, eh?

I feel bad about having to ban people who have no other place to go - it's my natural instinct to side with the underdog. But I can't let them ruin our community either.
