I knew you were going to do that. Fair point, I can't call anyone else out as long as I keep giving Epic money.
Don't throw stones while in a glass house is something I try to live by.
Epic stole exclusivity to Samurai Shodown and a few other titles that I wanted on Steam.
I still despise them for that lol
Fair point. I could stop buying from Epic, but then I'd literally have nothing I haven't boycotted.
Exclusivity has never been a big thing for me, coming from console, I don't really understand why people are mad. I mean, there's games I will never get to play because I don't have a Soyny console.
The only reason to hate Epic is some kind of principled stance against the CCP, but I'm typing this from a Lenovo device, using a keyboard that isn't from a Chinese company, but was made in China, and on a monitor that was also made in China. Kind of acknowledged that you can't avoid China and I personally have a deeper hatred for feminists anyway.
I'd rather pay Epic than EA or Ubisoft.
If it were just exclusives it likely wouldn't have made people as mad.
But numerous games were literally removed from Steam after months of open preorders to become Epic Exclusive. Only after backlash did they even allow those who preordered to keep the game on Steam.
Same with breaking up games in a series between multiple platforms. Generally exclusivity meant a brand loyalty you could expect. So if you liked Ratchet and Clank games, you were safe buying Playstation. For an example of this elsewhere, the Monster Hunter fandom is still screaming and seething about World being on PC/PS4, and now World fans are seething about Rise going to Switch. Epic threw a huge wrench in that for a few major series.
Not to mention the Epic Store was barely functional and missing a huge number of basic features for a long time, like a shopping cart.
Little things like that taint a reputation and turn people against your company and Epic hasn't really done anything to undo their negative rep. They just keep throwing money at more exclusives hoping to bribe you into liking them.
That's what I have always found odd about the Epic thing. The vast majority of complainants don't have the "CCP sucks" stance to fall back on, because the hate for the Chinese government isn't part of their standards.
If it's all about exclusivity, how can I call myself a capitalist and get pissed because Epic is using capitalism to benefit their company? I can also be a capitalist and choose to not purchase said product, and that's fine. But why bother getting mad and ranting all over the damn place about it?
Perhaps I don't understand the situation, I've never bought from Epic. I also hate Steam and their annoying-as-fuck launcher and under no circumstance can I piss all over Epic and go praise Gabe Newell like he's the second coming of Jesus. I really just prefer the GOG model, let me download the game and install it from a file and run it from the "launcher" I have built in called Windows that already has enough spyware on it. I'm still more console anyway, worrying about my PC hardware on a daily basis is something I'd prefer to leave in the past.
