Something I was thinking about recently is how modern society has allowed actual stupid people to live.
I mean, in the middle ages if someone went around talking about how they felt like they were actually a dog, they'd either be driven out of town or burned at the stake. If someone had said the devil was in their hand and cut it off, they'd either bleed out and die, get infected and die, or live and realize the pain they went through was enough for a lifetime. Fast forward a few years and maybe they'd have been put in an insane asylum.
Now, we've not only accepted it, we've monetized and commercialized it.
It's not even that. Modern society has rounded off every corner we could find. Killing yourself takes effort these days if you live in the western world.
I remember a woman trying to take pictures at the top of a waterfall.. she goes into the water and got swept away and died.
Then assholes (forgot who, probably family) says there shouldve been signs and fences lol. No accidents up until a retard decided to take selfies.
Must need signs that says knives are sharp or cliffs are dangerous because of gravity.
The example I've always used is every other year or so someone goes to Africa on safari or whatever and gets mauled by a lion or a hippo. Now, you would think with all the signs and guides telling them to stay in the vehicles for their own safety they would, but almost every time, they get out. Seems to me that evolution, fight or flight, or goddamn self preservation would make them follow directions but it happens.
This is exactly what one would predict would happen when "natural selection" gets shut off. It's basically summed up in the introduction to Idiocracy.
Other forms of selection take over, however. The selfish and underhanded, the clever who know how to keep their heads down and game the system, the real rotters, the workshy, start doing well. So you can expect a social animal's society to fall apart, and a dieback to happen. The healthy in both body and mind get preyed on by them, and burdened by the needy losers. If any population(s) survive an extinction event, they may have to start over again (depending on the level of tech they're left with - if nothing, you're back to simple natural and sexual types of selection.)
