Admittedly something of an incel but isn't this like a normal thing couples would do in a similar situation?

Spouse goes out of town, does huge broadcast presentation, calls partner right after and asks them how it went, partner assures them it went great?

Yes, of course it's normal. It does sound like the aid was trying to frame it's some kind of forced ritual imposed by Trump on Melania, however.
