Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal. Might not be Japanese, but it's some of the best animated storytelling ever, and it's all done without a single word being spoken. Honestly, I can't recommend this one enough.

Beastars. It's kind of a more serious, adult version of Zootopia (though it takes place in a kind of college), and deals more closely with conflict of instincts.
