About the hosting situation
posted 5 years ago by Bruvazz 5 years ago by Bruvazz +26 / -0

What can be possibly done? All the other problems can be addressed but I feel like DNS is the final filter. We can't flee "muh private corporations" if we depend solely on other private corporations to not pull the domain from under our feet. Thoughts?

ISPs most certainly can, and they can be pressured by the governments. But that's usually for much more serious stuff.

Thought the internet was designed to route around blocks?

We'd almost have to build our own ISP system too eh?

Technically yes, but if the companies in charge cut all the routing to an ip there's not much you can do except use a foreign VPN.

Guys in europe have been doing it for a long time to get past censorship (for example to access the pirate bay)

Hmm, problem is if we made a list of IP <--> site (basically our own DNS) and it was public, sjws might just blacklist them all.

Sure you could get a vpn to get to their server unless their ISP blocks that server.

Yeah we would need our own internet.

Ironically maybe net neutrality would have been a good thing.

Exactly, we could even get an Iranian uncensorable ip but they could just blacklist it at national level. I'm very doubtful that it would actually happen, but it could.

Wait, I thought we were in favor of net neutrality? Did something happen?
