I'm a bigger potential fan of this stuff than any of the soy based stuff. An extremophile fungus is a lot less likely to share any kind of accidental human hormone facsimiles, and I'm not one to be grossed out just because it came from some spicy mushrooms.
So it's another version of Quorn?
Why are vegans so obsessed with meat? Either eat it or don't, but stop trying to make all your food look and taste like meat.
From what I gather, it's for other people. If they can create artificial meat that tastes the same and is significantly cheaper, a lot of people will choose artificial meat over the genuine article.
I'm not sure how they think they'll large-scale farm an extremophile that isn't energy-intensive somehow, but w/e, anything to avoid telling the special, colourful humans of the world to reign in their fucking breeding, eh? Where everything else is demanded to have a steady-state population .... maybe just the uniceftards can eat this shit ...
Realistically it's very likely they grow best in an environment similar to their natural one though, there's not many living things that are more optimized for thriving outside their niche than inside their niche. Plus they mention growing them in ovens in the article.
Still, with some modern insulation and clever heat exchangers it doesn't have to be untenable. They may require more environmental heat than normal to get started, but as long as you're not losing any to the outside it's all energy that will be converted into calories eventually.
Sigh, not in the sense that the politicos mean. But they bitch about energy-intensive modern agriculture, don't they? They think farmers can go back to hoeing by hand and depending on all the birds they killed off a century ago for to control the insects and shit.
That being said, humans ARE having an effect on everything aorund them, like a spiteful mutant. But looking at the sky like chicken little is retarded. Want to solve problems for real, cut the fucking breeding and cut out about 2 or 3 billion asian niggers.

I get your meaning, but you understand that this completely contradicts the modern business/governance model of infinite growth and expansion, right? The people pushing this stuff simply don't care about the detriments of their plots as long as they get their money/power.
You lot keep saying this about capitalism. But capitalism grows to meet the needs of paying customers. Restricting food production means starving some people to death and making food more expensive for everyone else. Do you want eugenics and culling to reduce the world's population to a number some clueless politician calls "sustainable"?
They also don't care about biological reality, either. This is why they and the hippies go so well together in this modern weird age.
Nothing can grow forever, and technology doesn't make a species totally exempt from population ecology. Technology is not "unnatural", nor is it magic. It breaks no rules, it just extends them, but it can't do so forever. And hell, I don't think it's "coincidence" that non-human populations have dropped at the same percentage that human populations have exploded since the 1970s. Something has to give eventually, and no one should be surprised if nature reacts rather than just stepping back and politely dying and getting out of Man's ugly way.

The Last of Us mushroom zombies soon, lads.
Just do the opposite and freeze it before cooking it
Everybody can eat bugs, spring fungus and lab meat while
I canglobohomo can eat real farm-raised meat.Yeah, and even then it should also be eaten in moderation (i.e. soy) like any food.

You still believe climate change is real?

I'm not talking about capitalism, I'm talking about power-wielders having no skin in the game.

Rather eat harmless fungi than a bug.
