One can only wonder in awe what sort of giga-chads will inevitably be produced as a result of all this (hard times create strong men). Perhaps it is well that they are giga-chads, for they will have one hell of a mess to fix.
Consider that the Americans who endured the financial panic of 1893 - which saw more than a third of New Yorkers unemployed - are the people who decided not just to nuke a city, but to nuke two of them.
