One of my great regrets in life is a downsizing I did last summer when I put out some of my heavy books and furnishings.
One of them was a two volume hardboard paper copy of the Oxford English Dictionary from the 1980's (missing the magnifying glass and which I had hauled across the world). Some random passerby took it for free.
I didn't know that it was soon to become a pre-internet reference of the lexicon, and somewhat irreplaceable. I hope the neighbor who took it away, looks after it well.
Sigh, the "dictionary" concept stopped being a supposed guardian of word use to being just a reinforcer of popular usage the second "ain't" was accepted as a word.
Someone referred me to "the dictionary" to prove that 'irregardless' is an actual word. Because of course they include it. Another claimed that the fact that "the dictionary" defines gender in a way that he finds congenial, proves that his view was scientific.
Man, fuck sans-serif fonts sometimes. Archive at the top has an uppercase i, not a lowercase L. Using the wrong character brings up some sort of Japanese tweet instead. Correct link, wrong link.
Noted. I will look and see if there is another font fit for purpose.
So if Biden or Harris get to replace Thomas and/or Alito, they'll be packing the court unless they appoint a conservative. For some reason I suspect the language will have evolved again by then to magically make that not court packing.

"typically" an increase.
You know, when you pack something into a container by removing things from it.
I don't know about you, but when I pack my luggage I just shuffle the suitcases around and don't actually put anything in them.
"Why didn't you bring anything with you?"
"I spent several hours packing."
"... That's the opposite of answering my question."
"I don't know what to tell you."
"Why didn't you pack a toothbrush?"
"I did! I figured that since the TSA was gonna take my toothpaste, I'd be better off packing a toothbrush."
"... so where's the toothbrush?..."
"I figured I could just buy one when I got here."
"But then you'd have two..."
"Of course not, I left my toothbrush at home."
"BUT I THOUGHT YOU PACKED IT!"
"I DID! THAT'S WHY IT'S AT HOME!"
Great leader says "to pack" has always meant both to add and remove
Trust in the great leader, comrade
Okay, you've convinced me.
Hail Trump.
“Our Puritan Left masters require we butcher words to ensure positive optics, so we obey.”

It is too bad "definitionary" lost the format war.

The only good font is a serif font.
Times New Roman did nothing wrong.
Sounds like dictionary.com is wrong.
But ask them what side of history they're on.
history

The approved version of events
The opposite of nazi lies
WORDS NEARBY HISTORY

Bunch of fudge packers.
Where'd you get that one, off a poster from the fucking Ministry of Truth?
This isn't even my lastest form!
