86 45 is mostly a dog-whistle for Leftists on twitter, though it's not necessarily a death threat in particular.

To 86 something in the American vernacular is to simply remove it. In old mafia lingo, it could be said to kill someone as a stand in for words like "remove". It's a bit of a stretch to say that she was dog-whistling to kill him, but "86 45" was Leftist Twitter's attempt at a meme.

"To 86" something actually comes from Air Force slang/shorthand/code for when you have to throw something off the plane/jettison/ditch your cargo or bomb. There's also "88", which is a missed landing or need to go into a holding pattern (when a plane has to circle, either way) used to mean someone who didn't get a joke or something.

Is it? I've never heard the term before this incident.

Usually it's used in restaurants now when the kitchen is out of something. Instead of yelling out "we're outa salmon" you pass along "86 salmon."

As the guy above you said. Its old old organized crime lingo (as in Prohibition era). The mob always used to use code words for shit so they could claim innocence of crimes. I'm only familiar with it because I used to read lots of mob related fiction.

I heard it around T_D back on reddit some time ago. It was a hashtag they started, that failed to get any traction because the Left can't Meme.

Yeah, to "86" something is fairly old.
