Laws against false testimony would be enough to put most of what they say to the gutter since it has no real backing and would be a lie. Outside of simple name calling I suppose but that doesn't really matter much.

I suppose if we're talking about a site like this the mods would personally examine the claims made in light of the evidence to determine if it's true or not so it'd depend on their bias. Just letting people say whatever and letting the community decide personally whether they agree with a statement or not through votes and replies is a more reliable system though.
