If you think we are ever going back to normal you are mistaken. The rift that happened in the last 4 years is not going to go away no matter who wins. Media and academia have made anyone who is not a leftist to be subhuman. They will continue this trend, the left is not listening to the right, why would they listen to subhuman monsters.
Nothing short of complete submission to leftist ideology will appease them.
Just the debate over immigration went totally insane.
Now anything but totally open borders with limitless immigration makes you a racist nazi. It is outside the realm of acceptable opinion to refuse to have the population of your nation replaced by mass-migration.
In many areas and most universities everywhere, you cannot oppose immigration without being censored for hate speech and sent to re-education "sensitivity training".
How does a society unite back from that? It dosen't. It either snaps into another major paradigm-shift conflict eliminating mass-migration from the landscape of political opinion, or dissolves in mass-migration and stops existing.
It was already starting at the end of the Bush years. Obama accellerated it, and the election of Trump was the final straw.
You're right, though. There's no going back to how it was. It's going to be like this for the forseeable future, and whatever it becomes, it won't ever be what it was, ever again.
There is a very real possibility the US is heading for civil war and secessions very soon.

I'll settle for subjugating them and seeing to it that can spread no more harm.
