The people who bitch about gatekeeping are without fail the sorts that ought to be kept out.
Definitely, they're trojan horses. The only people who would complain about fan communities gatekeeping are the people who would be wanting to cause us trouble in the first place. If we don't gatekeep them, they invade and ruin things and gatekeep out the actual fans. They always do .
Of course gatekeeping is good. It's how you keep your enemies at bay.

The people who claim to oppose gatekeeping are hypocrites, to no-one’s surprise. They just think if they word-salad up new terms for it, amplify the new terms with all their cronies and socially-shame anyone who sees through the bullshit, they can get away with it while lambasting others for doing the same thing. Much like racism, sexism etc etc.
Japanese media is one of the last bastions where western influence doesn't hold much sway and it should stay that way. Look how bad the anime on Netflix are where they tried to market towards the west.
