The republicans also have lots of recordings of them wanting to delay the selection till after the election this isn’t the gotcha you want it to be. It’s just proof both sides will say whatever they can to gain more power.
Except people are pretending that if it wasn't for a Republican controlled Senate in 2016, that the Democrats wouldn't have wanted to pushed it through. They're pretending today that it was done for altruistic reasons as opposed to simply being unable to. Not even mentioning that in their hubris they absolutely couldn't see themselves losing the election.
By stating the fucking obvious, you inadvertently prove the point it's trying to make.
What the Republicans say their justification is hardly even matters. It is job of the Senate to determine the eligibility of a SCOTUS nominee, it not the Senate's job to rubber stamp any old fucker the President puts forward. The Senate in 2016 roundly judged Merrick Garland unqualified to be on the Supreme Court. End of story.
True, but the left is saying that the Republicans should not appoint a SCOTUS because hypocrisy however they have no leg to stand on cause according to them 2016. So the right is hypocritical to some degree but the left is also hypocritical while also pointing fingers at the other guy for being hypocritical.
Every time this scenario happened a SCOTUS was nominated and passed when the President and Senate were of the same party. This is true across both isles, so why is the left all up in arms over this like republicans are evil for doing what it is required by the constitution.
If and when the roles are reversed I fully expect that Democrats to nominate a SCOTUS and the Republican to say how they should not.
This particular situation is the closest we have to normalcy in some time, it is refreshing.
If the relationship between the Democrats and Republicans was better I could see a compromise but you can't call Republicans evil and deplorable at every turn and then demand a favor from them.

You're correct of course, and if people don't see that I think they have, to a certain degree, lost track of the plot.
